Leap AI: frequently asked questions
Answers to the questions we see most often from students, writers, marketing teams, and researchers. For a deeper dive on the underlying mechanics, see the Learn hub.About Leap
Leap is a free AI content detector and AI humanizer that runs entirely in your browser. The detector scores text from 0 to 100 based on writing signals such as burstiness (uniform versus uneven sentence length), stock AI phrases, hedging and transition words, em dash density, and repetition. The humanizer is a cleanup pass that replaces stock AI phrases, removes em dashes and invisible characters, adds contractions, and marks sentences of uniform length so you can vary them yourself.Who is Leap for?
Students verifying drafts before submission, writers using AI as a drafting aid, marketing teams producing content at scale, bloggers navigating Google's helpful content update, and researchers complying with journal AI policies. See our dedicated pages for students, writers, marketers, bloggers, and researchers. Is Leap free?
Yes. All tools are free, require no account, and run in your browser. There is no signup, no word limit, and nothing you paste is sent anywhere.Who built Leap?
Leap is built by a small independent team focused on making AI assisted writing safer and more honest. We publish our methodology openly. How detection works
Leap scores text from 0 to 100 using writing signals: burstiness, meaning how much sentence length varies, stock AI phrases, hedging and transition words, em dash density, and repetition. It highlights the sentences that weigh most on the score so you can see what drove the result. Everything runs locally in your browser. Is Leap's detector accurate?
The score is a signal, not proof. Any detector can be wrong, especially on short text, heavily edited AI drafts, and polished human writing. A high or low score must never be the only basis for accusing anyone of using AI.Why does my original writing get flagged as AI?
False positives concentrate in a few patterns: uniform sentence length, heavy use of parallel structure, stock vocabulary like leverage, navigate, and ensure, and polished academic or technical registers. Non native English writers are disproportionately affected. Our guide to false positives explains what to do about it.How humanization works
The humanizer is a cleanup pass that runs in your browser. It replaces stock AI phrases, removes em dashes and invisible characters, adds contractions, and marks sentences of uniform length so you can vary them yourself. You stay in control of the final text. Will the humanized text pass Turnitin?
We do not guarantee that processed text will pass Turnitin or any other detector, and the humanizer is not a bypass tool. Detectors change over time, and no result is guaranteed. Use the cleanup to improve your writing, not to evade checks.Privacy and data
