As you type, the counter shows the characters used, characters with and without spaces, and a live bar against each of these limits so you can see what is left before you hit a cap.

Characters with and without spaces

The main count includes every character: letters, digits, punctuation, spaces, tabs, and newlines. The no-spaces figure strips whitespace. Most platforms count with spaces (X, LinkedIn, meta tags), while some academic rules care about the no-spaces figure, so both are shown.

How emojis and URLs are counted

Each emoji is counted as its length in the input string, typically 2 UTF-16 code units for most emojis and more for composed emojis with skin-tone modifiers. Most platforms do the same, though X counts each emoji as 2 characters in its display count.X also counts any URL as 23 characters regardless of actual length. This counter shows the raw character count, so long URLs will read higher here than on X; for short URLs the counts match.

SEO title and description lengths

Google shows roughly the first 60 characters of a title tag and 160 characters of a meta description before truncating with an ellipsis, and mobile cuts off slightly earlier. Going a little over is fine, but front-load your most important keywords so the visible part carries the message.

Private by design

The counter runs entirely in your browser. Your text is never logged, saved, or transmitted anywhere. Close the tab and it is gone.
