How Leap scores text

Leap runs entirely in your browser. It scores text from 0 to 100 based on writing signals: uneven versus uniform sentence length (burstiness), stock AI phrases, hedging and transition words, em dash density, and repetition. It highlights the sentences that weigh most on the score. The score is a signal, not proof. It can be wrong in both directions, and it should never be the only basis for accusing anyone of using AI.

When GPTZero is the better pick

  • You are a school or university. GPTZero's Canvas, Google Classroom, and FERPA oriented integrations are purpose built for education, and Leap has no institutional tooling.
  • You need formal reporting for an academic integrity process. GPTZero's education focused reports are designed for that workflow.
  • You need institutional agreements and procurement. GPTZero offers institutional plans; Leap does not.

When Leap is the better pick

  • You want a quick, free check without creating an account or uploading your text anywhere.
  • You want to see which specific sentences read as machine written, so you can revise them yourself.
  • You want a cleanup pass that replaces stock AI phrases, removes em dashes and invisible characters, adds contractions, and flags uniform sentence lengths.

What neither tool can do

No detector can prove who or what wrote a text. Leap does not identify which model produced a passage, and it does not claim a fixed accuracy rate. Scores from any detector, including GPTZero, should be treated as one input among many, especially in high stakes settings.
